In January, we were in Nigeria on a vision trip to get to know the country and better prepare ourselves for what to expect. First of all, we saw... well ... EVERYTHING. In the 2 weeks, we met so many people with different stories and needs. We were in orphanages of children whose parents were killed by Boko Haram, in prison with people sentenced to death, with women in brothels, in slums, with widows who have lost their husbands in attacks from hostile groups in the area, we were in a hospital, in a drug detox center, a center where ex-Muslims find shelter after often having to flee for their lives when they convert to Christianity and with women who, if they come from very traumatizing environments or have experienced abuse, find a home and learn practical work. As you can imagine, it was incredibly exciting and enriching, but also hard to witness some of the fates and process all the tragic testimonies. What was also completely new - no matter where you go, you are asked to speak and are allowed to share something with the people. We are looking forward to immersing ourselves in the world of these people and writing our story alongside them.
